Governor Holcomb’s executive orders restricting evictions in Indiana expires today. The executive orders, originally implemented on March 6th and extended on July 30th, protected Hoosiers from evictions in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic led to many being temporarily laid off from jobs, seeing hours reduced at work, or losing their jobs entirely.
While the moratorium gave many a needed break to recover financially, unfortunately, many still face the daunting challenge of paying rent in these uncertain times. In response to these challenges, Indiana has provided various resources and information regarding what to do if you are unable to pay your rent or mortgage. Your first step if you find yourself in this situation should be to contact your property manager or mortgage lender. Assistance is available through Indiana’s Hardest Hit Fund, as well as through other non-profits around the state.
