Attorney Spotlight: Jody M. Butts

Jody M. Butts is partner at McNeelyLaw LLP. She completed her undergraduate education with a B.A. in Psychology from DePauw University. She then graduated from Indiana University’s Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2010 and joined the Indiana Bar. Jody started her legal career at McNeely Stephenson after graduating from law school, becoming a partner in 2018, and remained a partner with McNeelyLaw LLP in 2020.

Jody’s practice focuses on employment and labor law, elder law, government and municipal law, real estate, and business litigation. She also serves as the town attorney for Morristown, Indiana. Jody practices not only in Indiana state courts but also the US District Courts for the Northern District and Southern District of Indiana. She is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, Indianapolis Bar Association, Shelby County Bar Association, and the Indiana Municipal Lawyers Association.

Jody’s real passion, outside of helping her clients, is community service. She serves in multiple positions on the Major Hospital Foundation, including serving on the board of directors. She serves as a board member and scholarship committee member for the Blue River Community Foundation, and she serves on the boards of both the Blue River Youth Choir and the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce. Jody has mentored young people through the Starfish Initiative, has volunteered with the Junior League of Indianapolis, and is involved with the Lilly Scholars Network. Also, she serves on the Employment, Labor & Benefits Council of the Indiana State Bar Association as well as being the Programs Co-Chair for the Bar Association’s Probate Section. Public service runs deep in Jody’s blood.

Jody makes every effort, through her law practice and through her own personal devotion of time and effort, to make the community around her a better place for all.
